WEST WINFIELD-Sophy Scanlon, age 89, of Meeting House Road, went to see the angels on Saturday morning, July 31, 2010. She had the comfort of her loving family by her side.
She was born on January 21, 1921 in Middleville, daughter of the late Peter and Josephine Zeilinski Pavlot. A lifelong area resident she was raised and educated in Middleville. On February 22, 1961, she united in marriage with Reginald Scanlon in Herkimer. For the past forty-nine years they made their home on Meeting House Road.
For twenty years Mrs. Scanlon was employed by the Standard Furniture Company in Herkimer until 1978. She then went to work for Union Tools in Frankfort and retired from there in 1998 after twenty years of dedicated service.
Sophy will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother who enjoyed life to the fullest. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her sixty-two cherished grandchildren and they loved her in return. In her leisure time she enjoyed cooking, traveling and family functions. She took great delight in her extensive swan collection and had many, many of them. She also enjoyed watching truck pulls, especially when her granddaughter Tammy competed with Grandmas Pride. Se was her number one fan. Sophy was also very proud of her Polish heritage. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving beside her devoted husband of forty-nine years Reginald are two daughters and their husbands, Josephine and Glenn Boswell of Burlington Flats, Mitzi and Darryl Decker of West Winfield, one son, Todd W. Scanlon and his wife Barbara of West Winfield, two step-children, Reginald Skip Scanlon and his wife Carol of West Exeter, and Sue Ellen Bongiorno of Herkimer, a brother Peter Pavlot and his wife Tina of West Winfield, sixty-two grandchildren, many nieces and nephews including a special niece Dorothy Pavlot who helped her with everything, Eric Lincourt who she called her second son, her two dogs who were her protector, Sam and Buddy and to Billie Jo, you were a God Send. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas, John, Frank and Anthony Tony Pavlot.
Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Wednesday at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in Saint Joseph the Worker Church, West Winfield at 11:00 am. The Reverend Terence Healy, Pastor will officiate. Interment will take place in Cedarville Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm.
