Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Stanley V. Petkewec age 86 of Manley Street entered into eternal rest on Tuesday December 23, 2003 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He was born on June 3, 1917 in Frankfort son of the late Joseph and Filomena Barecki Petkewec. A life long area resident he was a graduate of Hartwick High School. On April 18, 1944 he married the former Anna Castelic in Saint Marys Church, Cooperstown. A loving and devoted union of forty years she preceded him in death on January 3, 1985. For twenty-five years Mr. Petkewec owned and operated the family dairy farm on Route 28 in Schuyler Lake, retiring in 1967. In 1968 he went to work as a salesman for the I.L. Richard Co. in Richfield Springs where he remained until 1985. He had a strong belief in God and was a faithful member of Saint Josephs Church, Richfield Springs. Stan had served as Justice of the Peace for the town of Exeter and was a past president of the Fly Creek Dairy Co-Op when it was in existence. His down to earth manor flowed from his character. Any conversation with him was frank and to the point. But you could sense a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He took great joy in traveling with his son Patrick to the many farms that Pat serviced with his lime spreading business. During those journeys he made many new friends that will truly miss him as well. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. Surviving are his son Patrick Petkewec of Schuyler Lake, his long time companion Dorothy Blysick of Richfield Springs, his former daughter-in-law Debbie Petkewec of Schulyer Lake, one brother Charles and his wife Margaret Petkewec of Hartwick, One grandson Michael and his wife Megan Petkewec of Cecil County, MD and five nieces. Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs on Saturday at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Josephs Church Richfield Springs at 10:00 am. The Reverend Terence Healy will officiate. Mr. Petkewec will laid to rest in St Josephs Cemetery next spring. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
