Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Stefania Steffie Szeflinski, age 89, went to be with the Lord on July 1, 2006. She was born on October 23, 1916, the daughter of the late Joseph and Felicia Bystron Peplinski. Steffie was raised and educated locally. On November 24, 1935, she married Chester Szeflinski in Putnam, Ct. He died on October 11, 1965. During World War II, she worked in the Navel Shipyard at Puget Sound, Washington. Later she was employed as a floor manager at the ShurKatch Company of Richfield Springs, until the age of seventy-two. She was a devoted member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, Richfield Springs and their Rosary Altar Society. Steffie will be remembered for her smile, her quick witted sense of humor, her optimism and her great love of Polish music. Steffie loved children and they in turn shared a strong bond. She was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother and their memories will be cherished forever. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Ann Szeflinski of Richfield Springs and their children, Suzanne DeLude, Paula Moshier, Paul M. Szeflinski, Stacey Mayne, Michael Szeflinski, Sheryl ODonoghue and Chet Szeflinski; her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Peter Gifford of Herkimer, and their children, Kevin Gifford, Grad Gifford and Althea Noyes; her sister, Frances Sczerbaniewicz of Rome, sister-in-law Helen Peplinski of Herkimer; thirteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.. Besides her parents and husband Chester, she was predeceased by two sisters Mary Garbera Kardys, Martha Zvirdin and three brothers Joseph, John and Zigmont Peplinski. Friends are invited to celebrate of Memorial Mass at St. Josephs Church, Richfield Springs on Monday at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Josephs Cemetery, Richfield Spring. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs. At Steffies request, please omit floral arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs High School Girls Basketball team. Envelopes will be available at the church or through the funeral home.
