Obituary

HERKIMER-Stephania Humphrey Boppy age 90 of West Smith Street passed away peacefully on Saturday evening June 18, 2011 in Faxton-St. Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. She had the peace and comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on August 19, 1920 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Mikolaj and Rozalia Kilian Danielak. A lifelong area Resident she was a graduate of VanHornesville High School. On May 30, 1948 she was united in marriage with Marshall E. Humphrey in the Polish National Catholic Church, Little Falls. They shared a loving and devoted union of forty-three years until his passing on April 23, 1991. Stephania first worked for the Dellwood Creamery in Herkimer and then for seventeen years at Food Land/Big M Super Market in Ilion. Mrs. Humphrey had a strong faith in God and led a devoted Episcopal life. She attended both Christ Episcopal Church in Herkimer and Saint Augustines Episcopal Church in Ilion. A caring and hopeful lady, she volunteered her time with the Shepards Table at the Herkimer Reformed Church as well as the Good Will Sales held at the Nathan Galinsky Apartments. To all who knew her she will always be remembered as a person who once you met her, you connected with her instantly She left you a genuine feeling of warmth and friendship. To her family she was always there for them whether it was good times or bad. Stephania will be sadly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately called her Boppy, a word meaning grandmother in Polish. Surviving are two daughters, Marcia Humphrey and her husband Joseph Sewell of Weare, NH, Mary Alice Gurtowski and her husband Ronald of Herkimer, one brother, Stanley and his wife Ann Danielak of Herkimer, a sister-in-law, Shirley Danielak of Ilion, five grandchildren, Andrew and his wife Sherie Gurtowski, John and his wife Mary Lourdes Gurtowski, Rebekah Humphrey-Sewell, Joshua Humphrey-Sewell, Michael Humphrey-Sewell and his fiance Sharon Giuffre, five great-grandchildren, Brian Gurtowski, Benjamin Gurtowski, Carol Ann Price, Patrick Gurtowski, Marilynne Humphrey-Sewell, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Marshall she was preceded in death by a brother Leo Danielak. Funeral service with Holy Eucharist will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am in Saint Augustines Episcopal Church, Ilion. The Reverend John Bassett, Rector will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Hospice & Palliative Care or MOVAC. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Mrs. Humphreys good neighbors Gerard and Carol Franklin for the care and concern shown for her and a special thanks to Faxton-St. Lukes 6th floor staff especially Nurses John Acuri and Karen Bumbalo and care attendant, Ashley Saponaro for their compassion during this difficult time.
