Obituary

HERKIMER-Stephen R. Ugi, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday evening August 20, 2021, in Faxton-Saint Luke's Medical Center, New Hartford. He was born on September 20, 1925 in Port Reading, NJ, son of the late Charles R. and Matilda Toth Ugi. He was raised and educated in New Jersey Public Schools. On December 11, 1943,he enlisted in the US Army. He served with the 287th Infantry Division in the Rhineland. He was the recipient of the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was Honorably Discharged attaining the rank of PFC on April 26, 1946. On October 23, 1947, he was united in marriage to the love of his life the former Audrey Irene Morgan in Saint Mary's RC Church in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. They shared a devoted union of seventy-three years until her passing on January 20th of this year. From 1948, Mr. Ugi was a Glazer by trade and owned Lanky'sGlass Business in Iselin New Jersey. He retired in 1994. On October 2, 2020 he and his wife moved to Herkimer coming from Waverly. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering with car motors in his younger years and lawn mower engines more recently. To those who knew him, he was a handy and thrifty man who was a joy to be around. He will be sadly missed. He is survived by one son, Ronald Ugi of Avenel, NJ, three daughters, Sandra Ugi and her companion Pat Anderson of South Ampton, NJ, Janice Conlon and her husband Frank of Flemington, NJ, Sharon Polyak and her husband Michael of Mohawk, three grandchildren, Shane Polyak, Bridget Conlon and Tegan Rand, one niece, Mary Wojciechowski, two nephews, Brian Ugi and Joe Bodnar and several cousins. Besides his parents and wife Audrey, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Donnelly in 2010, four brothers, Charlie. Joe, William and Gene Ugi, two sisters, Helen Kertesz and Mary Bodnar. A funeral service with military honors for Mr. Ugi will be held on Sunday September 12th at 12:30pm in the Emanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls, NY. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
