HERKIMER-Steven Gordon Jones, age 70, passed away unexpectedly at the Oneida Center in Utica on Monday, August 8, 2022. He was born on February 14, 1952 in Herkimer, son of the late Gordon Albert and Jane Wood Jones. A lifelong area resident he was raised in Herkimer and graduated from Herkimer High School. For a number of years he was employed by the Progressive Industries. Steven had a strong belief in God and while living in Herkimer belonged to the First Baptist Church. In his youth he enjoyed fishing especially with his dad. At one time, they together built their own fishing boat and spent many days fishing from their boat on Mirror Lake. In his younger years he enjoyed the outdoors and was very involved inscouting. In his leisure time he could relax by listening to country music, especially his favorite singer, Johnny Cash. Steve will be sadly missed by the many friendshe made at the Oneida Center and his family. Surviving him are two sisters, Janet Riesel and Joan Jones both of Herkimer, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many cousins. A graveside funeral service will take place on Friday at 11:00 am in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Poland, NY. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer.
