Obituary

HERKIMER - Steven Osley age 86 of Willis Avenue passed away on Monday morning April 20, 2009 in Little Falls Hospital. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on March 15, 1923 in Herkimer, son of the late John and Julia Boor Osley. A lifelong area resident he was educated in Richfield Springs Central Schools. On September 29, 1945 he was united in marriage with the former Frances Grabinski in Saint Josephs Church, Herkimer. For thirty years, Mr. Osley was employed by the Mohawk Valley Oil Company retiring as plant manager in 1986. He had a strong belief in God and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the East Herkimer Fish & Game Club and Buck Point Hunting Lodge. To all who knew him they will remember kind and caring gentleman. Any conversation with him was straight forward and to the point but you could always sense a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed. Surviving besides his devoted wife of sixty-three years, Frances are one son, Stephen J. Osley, a daughter, Carol and her husband Peter Vercz all of Mohawk, one grandson, Jeff Osley and his fianc Courtney Klayr of Herkimer, one great grandson, Matthew Charles Osley, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Paul and George Osley and one sister Anna Jansak. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 8:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Ann Zimmerman, Pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer will officiate. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the memorial service (6:00 to 8:00 pm). Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Bassett Healthcare and Hospice Palliative Care for the care and compassion shown to Steve and his family.
