HERKIMER Steven G. Peknik 78 of SouthMain Street, died on Wednesday September 13, 2000 in Little Falls Hospital. He was born onJuly 5, 1922 in Herkimer son of the late Daniel and Anna Cizmar Peknik. A lifelong resident of Herkimer, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School. He then went on to the New York State Agriculture and Technical College at Canton receiving a degree in chemistry. After graduating from College, Steven enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II and was honorably discharged after the war. He returned to College attending Michigan State Normal College and achieving his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1950. In 1965 he was awarded his New York State Teaching Certificate. From 1959 to 1967 he taught General Science and Chemistry in the Dolgeville School System. In 1969 he went to work for Mohawk Data Sciences until 1975 when he went with the Herkimer Area Resource Center retiring in 1995. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical LutheranChurch, Herkimer. Surviving him are a brother Paul Peknik ofScotia, his sister Elizabeth and her husband Reinhold Senft, a niece Susan and her husbandCharles Crimmins all of Little Falls as well as several other nieces and nephews. He waspreceded in death by two brothers Daniel Peknik Jr., John Peknik and a nephew Paul Peknik,Jr. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday at11:30 AM in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer with the Reverend DaleDickerson Pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer officiating. Intermentwill follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls. There are no callinghours.
