Obituary

JORDANVILLE-Steven Staruck, age 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, June 28, 2015, in his home. He had the support and comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on December 26, 1917, in Herkimer, son of the late Peter and Mary Swedyk Stark. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in VanHornesville. On February 27, 1941, he answered the call of his country, enlisting in the US Army. He proudly served in the 22nd Infantry Division. He was awarded three Bronze Battle Stars and a Purple Heart. On January 26, 1947, he was honorably discharged, attaining the rank of Staff Seargent. On October 14, 1950, he was united in marriage with the former Marian Sarafin in Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Richfield Springs. For twenty-five years Mr. Staruck worked as a machinist for UNIVAC and then for ten years with Stack Electronics in East Herkimer. He reitired in 1983. Steve had a strong faith in God and was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker RC Church in Richfield Springs. He was also a member of the William Hempstead Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Frankfort and the Remington 25 year Club. Those who knew Steve, will always remember a kind, good natured and caring man who had a special abilty to fix anything that was broke. Whether it be a broken wristwatch or anything larger he loved the challenge of repairing it. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his devoted wife of sixty-four years Marian, one son, Steven M. Staruck and his wife Kathleen of Mohawk, a daughter, Joyce Soposki and her husband Joseph of Mohawk, one sister, Pauline Wasileski of Mohawk, a sister-in-law Martha Stark of Herkimer, five grandchildren, Andrew Staruck and his wife Kelly of PA, Kelly Rudd and her husband Tom of Jordanville, Gregory Soposki and his wife Allison of Marcy, Jason Soposki and his wife Suzanne of Jordanville, Luke Soposki and his wife Lynnea of OH, ten great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and several cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, John and William Stark, two sisters, Anna Gifford and Stella Scott. A Mass of Christian Burial Will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 am in Saint Joseph the Worker RC Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Bernard Osei Ampong, pastor will officiate. Interment will take place at a later time. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Saint Joseph the Worker RC Church, The Jordanville Public Library or the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the church service. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice and Paliative Care for the care and compassion shown to Steve during his illness.
