RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Stewart J. Geywits age 90 of Millstone Road entered into eternal rest on Sunday evening April 17, 2005 in his home. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side at the time of his passing.
He was born on December 9, 1914 in the town of Warren, son of the late Lynn and Mabel McCrory Geywits. A lifelong Warren resident he was educated in both Richfield Springs and Van Hornesville. On August 3, 1941 he was united in marriage with Rose Lucas in Richfield Springs.
Over the years Mr. Geywits had held various jobs, he was a farmer, had sold farm machinery for Whites Farm Supply he had delivered cars for Skinner-Damulis Ford and most notably served for fourteen years as Highway Superintendent for the town of Warren.
He had a strong belief in God and was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a member of the Warren Grange and the Republican Club of southern Herkimer County.
Stewart was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Surviving besides his devoted wife of sixty-four years Rose are two sons Ronald and his wife Barbara Geywits of Delhi, Robert Geywits of Burlington Flats, a sister, Dora Wood of Mohawk, three grandchildren, one great grandchild and a cousin Mary Sitterly. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son Lawrence Geywits in 1953.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend William Harkins, Pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs will officiate. Interment will be in Springfield Center Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 pm.
