RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Stuart Francis Furner age 86 of Cullen Road, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening June 15, 2008 in Mary Imogene BassettHospital, Cooperstown. He was born on July 18, 1921 in the town of Paris, son of the late Charles H. and Jane Hand Furner. Stuart was raised in Parisand was educated in Sauquoit Valley High School. A veteran of World War II he served with the US Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged in 1944 attaining the rank Corporal. On May 6, 1944 he was united in marriage with the former Edna Mae McIlhargie inDetroit, MI. A loving and devoted union of sixty-three years, Mrs. Furner preceded him in death on March 20th of this year. In 1951 Stuart and his wife left Cassville and moved to Cullen Road in Richfield Springs. There they successfully owned and operated the Furner Dairy Farm until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Richfield Springs Vets Club. Mr. Furner will always be remembered as a warm, friendly and hard working man who always had a willingness to help others. A friend to many he will be greatly missed. Surviving him are two sons and their wives, Thomas and Sharon Furner of Lansdale, PA, Charles and Patricia Furner of Richfield Springs, a sister, Dorothy Lane of Rotterdam, four grandchildren, Stuart and Michael Furner, Amanda and Joseph Furner, Four great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Edna, he was predeceased by five brothers, Charles, Raymond, Lester, Emerson and Clarence Furner and three sisters, Alice Roberts, Minnie Furner and Helen Furner. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Celebration of Life for both Stuart and Edna to be held on Saturday June 21st, at 11:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Richfield Springs. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad or the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
