Susan L. Chamberlain, 68, of Richfield Springs, passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center on Thursday, December 3, 2015 surrounded by her family.
Susan was born on February 25, 1947 in Niskayuna. She graduated from Sharon Springs Central School in 1965 and went on to beauty school and earned a license in Cosmetology. She married Donald, her high school sweetheart, on February 24, 1968. After Donald was discharged from the US Air Force, they resided in Ilion, NY. In 1978 the family relocated to Richfield Springs.
She is survived by her spouse, Donald Chamberlain of Richfield Springs, children Lisa (Jay) Yeman of Moseley, VA and Nathan (Danielle) Chamberlain of Tracy, CA, four grandchildren, Jack Yeman, Kevin, Kelly, and Kyle Chamberlain, a brother Daniel Vrooman of Central Bridge, nephews Christopher (Esther) Vrooman of Guilderland and Glenn (Anita) Warner of Staten Island, a niece Michelle (Mark )Fowler of Canajoharie, and many great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Louis Vrooman and Annabelle Lighthall Vrooman, a brother Richard Lighthall, and an aunt Charlene Gordon.
Susan's passions were crocheting, boating, reading, collecting hummingbirds and spending time with family. She was an active and dedicated member of the RSCS Sports Booster Club while her children were in school and a lifelong member of the Sharon Springs American Legion Auxiliary. She was a long time employee of Rick's Clothing Store on Main Street and most recently worked for over ten years at the Kinney's Drug Store in Richfield Springs. She was a beloved member of the community and always had a smile for everyone she met.
Calling hours will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM with a memorial service immediately following on Thursday, December 10th at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Mark Fowler will officiate the service. Burial will be at Slate Hill Cemetery in Sharon Springs, immediately following the memorial service.
