MOHAWK-Susan A. Harkins age 85 of Marshall Avenue, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday morning March 10, 2004 in Little Falls Hospital. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on August 23, 1918 in Mohawk, daughter of the late Wallace and Katie Lewis Innes. A lifelong Mohawk resident, she was a graduate of Mohawk High School. On May 3, 1941 she married Edwin W. Harkins in the Mohawk Methodist Church. A devoted union of fifty-nine years he preceded her in death on December 30, 2000.
Sue was a beautiful, intelligent woman who found great joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to the care and nurturing that she set aside for her family, she found time to be very involved in her church. As a member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church she belonged to the United Methodist Women, had taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, served on the church Administrative Council, supervised the Methodist Youth Fellowship of the church and was active holding various offices in the Church Conference. She also was a member of the Folts Homes Auxiliary, TOPS, Mohawk Senior Citizens and for many years was involved in Cub Scouting and the Girl Scouts of America.
Susan will always be remembered for her warm smile, her caring way and friendly manner.
Surviving are one son, The Reverend William Harkins and his wife Sue of Richfield Springs, a daughter, Jane and her husband Kenneth Miller of Florence, VT, two brothers, Louis and his wife Frances Innes, Ross Innes all of Mohawk, six grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Rusty Corron of Bellville, Katie and her husband John Choe of Boston, MA, Hannah Adams of Bozeman, VT, Theresa Miller of Morrisville, VT, Christine Miller of Florence, VT, Deanna Harkins of Richfield Springs, two great-grandchildren, Logan and Luke Corron of Bellville, several nieces, nephews and one cousin in Canada.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Deborah Wollaber, Pastor of the Mohawk United Methodist will officiate. Mrs. Harkins will be laid to rest with her husband in Mohawk Cemetery later this spring. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Mohawk United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
