RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Sylvia Barringer, age, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, in Bassett Healthcare Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on July 4, 1928 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Joseph and Ida Atkinson Doyle. She was raised in Herkimer and graduated from Herkimer High School. In 1947 she married Robert Barringer in the First United Methodist Herkimer. They shared a devoted union of 21 years until his passing on December 16, 1968. After raising nine children on her own, she went to work in the housekeeping department at Folts Home in Herkimer. She retired in 1993. In her leisure time Sylvia enjoyed knitting, reading and traveling to Maine and Florida. To all who knew her, Mrs. Barringer was the strength that held her family together and was always there for them in good times or bad. She was happiest when spending time with her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and great greatgrandchildren. She will be truly missed. Surviving are her children; Beverly Evans of Oneonta, Carolyn Buck and husband Richard, of Ilion and Florida, Barbara Mooney and her husband Richard of N. Carolina, Marylou Gravelding of FL, Debra Toner and her husband Rodney, Shirley Campbell, and Steven Barringer and his wife Bonnie, all of Richfield Springs Richard Barringer of Kirkwood, Dawn Sloboda and her husband Ronald of FL, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, a sister Patricia Eckler of Herkimer, sister-in-laws ,Jean and Tillie Doyle, Janet Kucerak (John). Besides her parents and husband Robert, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Julia Johnson, Elizabeth Wells, Mildred Doyle, Frances Doyle, four brothers, Ed, Herman, Joseph and Richard Dolye, son-in-law, Philip Gravelding, sister-in-laws Shirley LaFountain, Gail Myers, brothers-in-law, Kenneth, Harold and Frederick Barringer. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs on Friday(TODAY) from noon until 2:00pm to receive relatives and friends. The funeral service will follow immediately after at 2:00 pm in the funeral home. The Reverend Robert Wollaber, pastor of Morning Star Ministries will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville. Expression of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad or West Winfield Ambulance.
