Obituary

MOHAWK-Thelma G. Cameron age 94 beloved wife of the late Maynard H. Cameron entered into eternal rest on Monday afternoon September 20, 2004 in the Connecticut Hospice, Branford, CT. She was born in the family home on Stimson Street, Herkimer on August 15, 1910, the second child of Howard Chase and Elizabeth Faulder Wickes. She was raised in Herkimer and attended Herkimer schools. On June 25, 1932 she married Maynard Cameron in Herkimer. A loving and devoted union of forty years, he preceded her in death on October 29, 1972. Along with her husband, she was a small businesswoman, operating the Uhlinger Inn (near Kast Bridge) in the early 1930s and variously the Cozy Nook restaurant in Mohawk, a family grocery store in Forrestport, NY and lastly, built and operated Camerons Superette in Mohawk from the mid-1960s until the latter was sold to the Shibley family. Thelma moved to Monroe, CT in 1983 to reside with the deMayos. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Mike deMayo of Monroe, CT, Sandy and her husband Mike Bonamassa of Yellow Springs, OH, one brother, Melvin Wicks, two sisters, Ella Johnson and Evelyn Matteson, ten grandsons, two granddaughters, eighteen great grandsons, eight great granddaughters. Besides her parents and husband Maynard one grandson, Mitch deMayo, one granddaughter, Melissa Bonamassa, three brothers, Henry, Willard and Howard Wicks, three sisters, Virginia Fenton, Ruth Hawkins and Winnie Mussen predeceased her. Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Saturday at 12:15 pm. A Mass of Christian will be celebrated at 1:00 pm in Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. The Reverend Mark Cunningham and a grandson, The Reverend Martin deMayo of St Marks Parish, Stratford, CT will officiate. Following the funeral mass Mrs. Cameron will be laid to rest with her husband in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 7:00until 9:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses at the Connecticut Hospice for the love, care and compassion shown to Thelma and her family during her illness.
