HERKIMER - Thelma E. Sperl, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, February 20, 2007 in Little Falls Hospital. She was born on January 5, 1912, in Herkimer the daughter of Howard and Alma Bard. A lifelong area resident she graduated from Herkimer High School . She was married to Carl Sperl who preceded her in death on March 7, 1958. For over 25 years she was employed with Mungers Department Store, in Herkimer, retiring in 1986. Mrs. Sperl was a member of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer. In her leisure time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she will be remembered as a caring and helpful person and will be greatly missed by her friends and especially her family. Surviving are one son Howard Sperl and his wife Doris of Mohawk, three grandchildren, Richard Sperl of Rome, Sandra Shepard, Jeffrey Sperl and his wife Sara all of Mohawk, four great grandchildren, Tyler Andrew Sperl, R.J. Shepard, Jordan Ashley and Nathan Andrew Sperl. Besides her husband Carl, she was preceded in death by three children, Carl, Carol and an infant son. A graveside service will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery later this spring. There are no calling hours.
