HERKIMER-Theodore J. Bahry age 86, of Nathan Galinsky Apartments, passed away on Saturday January 14, 2006 in Saint Lukes Memorial Hospital, New Hartford.
He was born on July 10, 1919 in New York City, son of the late John and Bernice Bostosch Bahry. At a young age he with his family came to Columbia Center where he was raised and educated.
On May 28, 1943 he married the former Mildred Innes in Mohawk. Theirs was a loving and devoted union of forty-five years until her passing on July 16, 1988. For many years he worked in construction with Local Union # 35 in Utica until his retirement in 1981.
A familiar face around Galinsky Apartments nothing could detract from the joy of knowing Ted. His down to earth manner flowed from his character. This was evidenced from the many friends that he had made living there. He took great pride in caring for the flowers planted around the building as well as feeding nuts to the squirrels that were always looking for him. In the warmer weather you could be sure to find him either in the comfort of the log cabin or visiting with neighbors on the park benches. He will be missed by his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by a son, Daniel and his wife Lois Bahry of Herkimer, three daughters and their husbands, Virginia and James Brownell of Fort Plain, Denise and Richard Neale of Ilion, Debra and Lee Bowman of Frankfort, one sister Olga Fields of West Winfield, eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers John and Peter Bahry, a sister Nettie Plosnick, a grandson Nicholas Dauksza in 1981 a son Theodore J. Bahry Jr. in 1982 and a daughter Lorraine Dauksza in 1989.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Wrightson Tongue, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls will officiate. Interment will follow in Mohawk Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 3:00 until 7:00 pm. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Critical Care Unit of Saint Lukes Memorial Hospital, Doctors C. Patel, A. Butala, S. Desai, Misiaszek and Yusaf for the care and compassion shown to Ted during his illness.
