RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Theodore George Boersma age 91 of Church Street passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 17, 2011 in his home. He had the comfort and support of his loving family at his side.
He was born on September 28, 1919 in Holland, son of the late George and Susan Sadie Vander Draai Boersma. Ted, with his family came to this country in 1928, where they settled in Patterson, New Jersey. He completed High School in Patterson and furthered his education at Rutgers University. On August 24, 1951 he was united in marriage with the former Rena Bootsma in the Presbyterian Church, Sussex, NJ. For many years Mr. Boersma was a dairy farmer and owned and operated Meadowlark Dairy Farm in Glenwood, NJ until his retirement in 1970. They then made their home in Vernon, NJ. There he worked for the Conklin and Strong Lumber Yard until 1981 when they moved to Richfield Springs. Mr. Boersma was a man with a strong sense of community while owning his dairy farm he was an active member with the National Farm Organization, and a nine year member of the Board of Education in Vernon Township, NJ. In Richfield Springs he was a member of the Richfield Springs Rotary Club and served as club President from 1986 to 1987.
To all who knew him they will remember an honest, caring and hardworking man. Any conversation with him was straight forward and to the point but you always could feel a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 59 years Rena, two sons John Boersma and his wife Janice of Vernon, NJ, Andrew Boersma of Neptune, NJ, a daughter, Ruth Susan Stewart and her husband Philip of Grand Rapids, MI, one sister, Jennifer Ferbeck of Guilderland, a cherished granddaughter, Lauren Frances Boersma, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Boersma and a sister, Pearl DeGroot.
Funeral service will be on Thursday at 12:30 pm in the Mohawk Reformed Church with the Reverend Brian Engle, Pastor officiating. Interment will take place on Friday at 1:30 pm at Clove Cemetery, Sussex, NJ. The family will be present in the church to receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the funeral service (11:30 am until 12:30 pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the church service.
