MOHAWK-Theodore R. Shaver age 97 passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2020 at his home. Ted was born on June 16, 1923 in the town of German Flatts, son of the late Carl Raymond and Martha Lowell Shaver. A lifelong Mohawk resident, he was a graduate of Mohawk High School. A veteran of World War II, he served for fifteen months as a Medical Technician with the 514th Medical Hospital ship platoon in Northern France and the Central Pacific. He received the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 16, 1945 and returned home to Mohawk. Ted worked with Union Local #545 in Syracuse and Union Local #98 in Albany as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He retired in 1990. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls and the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post # 25 in Mohawk. Ted had a strong interest in NASCAR and for a number of years raced his own stock car at Potsdam, Fonda, Veron, Brookfield and the New State Fair. To all who knew him will always remember a caregiver, generous, hard-working and private man with a heart of gold. He will be truly missed. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Kozakowski and her husband Robert J. of Mohawk, a brother, John Shaver of Herkimer, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Richard Shaver and two sisters, Pearl Grzeszczuk and Eleanor Currie. A funeral service and interment with military honors were held at the convenience of the family.
