Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Theresa Vertucci Oakes age 82, of County Highway # 22, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon December 28, 2012 in her home. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on May 5, 1930 in Richfield Springs, daughter of the late Antonio C. and Elizabeth A. Famulare Vertucci.A lifelong Richfield Springs resident; she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.She furthered her education at the Utica School of Beauty where she became a licensed beautician.For fifty years Mrs. Oakes owned and operated Theresas Beauty Shop from her home in Richfield Springs. On July 1, 2000 she was united in marriage with Clifford Smith Oakes in Saint Josephs Church Richfield Springs.Theresa had a strong faith in God and was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs.She was active in the church choir and many times was a soloist for Sunday masses and funeral services as well as a member of the churchs Rosary Society. She was a member of TOPS and the Wednesday Morning Bird Club.Theresa also took courses in flower arranging and in her leisure time enjoyed making flower arrangements for her home and friends.Mrs. Oakes loved her community and had served on the Board of Elections. She was responsible for organizing the annual Christmas in the Park that was a joy to children and adults in Richfield Springs.She also organized the Red Hat Lady Bugs chapter of Richfield Springs and was Queen of the group.To all who knew her, would agree that she was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed. Surviving besides her husband Clifford are two brothers and their wives, Frederick and Joy Vertucci of Richfield Springs, James and Barbara Vertucci of Stoneridge, many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Joseph and Anthony Vertucci, six sisters, Mary Brown, Elizabeth Lyon, Grace Avery, Rose Edick, Anna Edick and Margaret Lasher. Calling hours for Mrs. Oakes will be on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The ReverendMatthew Wetsel, Pastor will officiate. Expressions of sympathy may be made memorial donations to the Catskill Area Hospice or Saint Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
