HERKIMER Therese A. Ray, age 85 of Steuben Hill Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 in Folts Homes.
She was born on October 27, 1927, in Mohawk, a daughter of the late John and Marie McDonald Hassett. A lifelong area resident she was raised and educated in Mohawk, graduating from Mohawk High School. On October 24, 1953 she was united in marriage to Harold Ray in the Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. She led a devoted catholic life and was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Thereses life was full of love, and adventure. She enjoyed crafting items for which she won many awards. Cruising with her husband in St. Lawrence, Bahamas, or the Greek Island, as well as a trip to Ireland were treasured memories to be shared. She was also member of the Minnowbrook Garden Club. Her flower gardens were the envy of many. Her selfless love lives one in each member of her family and she will be greatly missed.
Surviving besides her husband Harold of almost 60 years, are her daughters, Pamela Metott and her companion Robert Luther of Ilion, Penny Garski of Herkimer, a brother Edward Hassett and his wife Shirley of Mohawk, a sister Helen Lynch and her husband Donald of Trophy Club, TX, six grandchildren, Joseph Metott and his companion Lindsey Dodge, Scott Metott and his wife Karly all of Mohawk, Brandy Metott, Taylor, Tyler and Tarra Garski all of Herkimer, four great-grandchildren, Joey, Carter, Casey and Brynlee Metott , several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two infant sons Harold Ray III in 1956, Bradley Ray in 1957, a son-in-law Joseph Metott in 1996, and a sister Mary James.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at noon in the Wakeman Chapel of the Folts Home, 104 North Washington St, Herkimer. The family will be present in the chapel on Saturday from 11:00 am until noon (one hour prior to the funeral service). Interment at Mohawk Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Folts Home. Envelopes will be available at the chapel.
