Obituary

RICHFIELDSPRINGS - Thomas H. Hovick, age 59, of Keating Road, passed away Friday, September 3, 2010 in Mary Imogene BassettMedical Center,Cooperstown. A son of the Henry D. and Margaret Nell Riggle Hovick he was born on November 18, 1950 in Bay Shore, NY. As a young child, his family moved from Long Island to Edmeston, where he was raised and educated, graduating from Edmeston High School with the class of 1969. At one time he was married to the former Sherry Spencer Starr. For over forty years he worked as a self employed electrician, as well as being licensed in plumber/heating. He was also an accomplished carpenter. Tom always took pride in his work; he could build a home from the frame work to the finished interior. He also knew how to enjoy lifes simple pleasure, be it watching re-runs of old western movies and TV show, tending his garden or just sitting around the fireside, spending time with family and friends. His friendly manner and sincere willingness to help others will always be remembered. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed. Surviving besides his parents Henry and Nell Hovick of Norwich, is Virginia Ginny Elliott, who shared his love and compassion , his ex-wife Sherry Hovick whom he still considered his best friend for over twenty years, of Richfield Springs, a daughter Trishia Hovick of Edmeston, two step-sons Christopher and Michael Starr both of Richfield Springs, sons, Todd Hovick and companion Debbie, Scott Hovick and his wife Danielle all of Hartwick, Trevor Hovick of Edmenston, TJ Hovick and his wife Jamie of West Burlington, Shane Hovick an his wife Kate of CT., sister, Kathy Kappauf and her husband Hal of Oxford, a brother James Hovick and Hartwick, sister, Gail Bolton and her husband Jack of Burlington Flats, his good friends, Rick Spencer of Richfield Springs, Richard Green of Plattsburg and Jim Francis of Richfield Springs, several grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins and his two special canine companions Spanky and Darla. The family will be present in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, RichfieldSprings to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery on Thursday morning at 11:00 am. For those wishing, memorial donation may be made to Virginia Elliott, St. Judes Hospital for cancer research or the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
