HERKIMER-Vern Moffatt age 85 passed away on Wednesday morning May 27, 2020 in his home after a short illness. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side. Vern was born on May 29, 1934 in Wainville, West Virginia, son of the late Clarence and Lula Miller Moffatt. A lifelong area resident he attended West Canada Valley High School. He furthered his education at the Electrical College.
On June 11, 1955 he was united in marriage to the former Phyllis Thompson in the Paines Hollow United Methodist Church. They made their home and raised their family in Herkimer. Mr. Moffatt worked as an Electrical Technician for the General Electric Company in Utica. He retired in 1993 after 37 years of dedicated service to the company. Vern had a strong love for the outdoors. In his retirement he spent much of his time fishing, hunting and camping at his favorite campground Moffit Beach. He also enjoyed playing cards. Vern was happiest when he was spending time with his many friends and family especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will forever be remembered as a good hearted, caring and helpful man who lived by the Golden Rule. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving him are his devoted wife of sixty-four years, Phyllis, two sons, David Moffatt of Herkimer, Daniel Moffatt and his companion Melissa Jacquays of Mohawk, two daughters, Karen Lopez of Richfield Springs, Laura Moore and her husband Jeremy of Mohawk, two sisters, Violet L. Jeck of Herkimer, Nellie L. Pratt of Frankfort, sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, many nieces, including a special niece Debbie Stevens, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Erney and Clarence B. Moffatt and two sisters, Pattigene Moffatt and Betty Stevens.
Funeral service and interment for Mr. Moffatt were private and at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.
