ILION - Viola M. James, age 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, November 10, 2005, in Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on June 2, 1912, in Hinckley, a daughter of the late Edward and Olivett Lincourt Bouchard. A lifelong area resident she was educated in Herkimer. On January 31, 1931 she married William C. James in St. Francis deSales Church Herkimer. Theirs was a loving and devoted union of forty-one years until his passing on May 27, 1972. Mrs. James held various positions, working for Donnelly Glove Manufacturing and Devere Bakery in Herkimer. She retired in June of 1972 after 15 years of continued service with The Survend Vending Supply Co, Whitesboro. For over fifty-five years she resided in Mohawk before moving to Ilion in 1996.
She had a strong belief in God and lived a devoted Catholic life. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church Mohawk, their Rosary Society and for over ten years she chaired the church Rummage Sales.
Viola was a caring and giving person who volunteered for many organization within the community, including, RSVP for over 20 years, AARP, the Home Bureau, the Ilion Hospital Guild, knitting blanket and baby hats. This she continued to do until the age of 93. She enjoyed crafts and card parties. She remained a loyal volunteer for Meals on Wheels, delivering meals at the age of 80. Her outgoing nature kept her young at heart. She will always be remembered as a true inspiration to her friends and especially her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Olson of Mohawk, Clara Jones of Centerville, OH, nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband William, she was preceded in death by her only son, Robert James in 1994, a grandson Ronald Oslon, Jr. in 1993, three brothers, Ernest, Patrick and William Bouchard and three sisters, Blanche Renaud, Clara Knight and Rose Hall.
Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Saturday at 9:15 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk at 10.00am. Interment will follow in Mohawk Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in the funeral home on Friday evening from 4-7 p.m.
As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Little Falls Hospital 4th floor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
