HERKIMER - Walda Helen Thomas, 94, formerly of Church Street, passed away on Tuesday evening, April 24, 2007, in the Jewish Home of Central New York, Syracuse, where she has resided for the past seven years.She was born on Aug. 7, 1913, in Newville, daughter of the late Peter and Agnes Mazur Widanka. A lifelong area resident, she was raised in St. Johnsville and was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School.On Dec. 28, 1940, she was united in marriage with LeRoy Thomas in Ilion. Theirs was a loving and devoted union of 43 years until his passing on Aug. 26, 1984. For 40 years, she and her husband owned and operated their own dairy farm in Kast Bridge. They retired in 1975 then moving to Herkimer.With a strong belief in God, Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Polish National Catholic Church, Little Falls. She belonged to the Herkimer Senior Citizens and AARP. In her leisure time she enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and found great peace and relaxation in her garden. She will always be remembered as a caring, hopeful and loving person and will be dearly missed by her friends and family.She is survived by two brothers, Edward Widanka of Sarasota, Fla., Steven and his wife Marie Widanka of St. Johnsville; several nieces and nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband LeRoy, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Wojcieson and Mary Karpiak.Funeral service will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Raphael Dadello, pastor of the Polish National Catholic Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Newport Cemetery.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Saturday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Polish National Catholic Church, 618 E.
