Obituary

LAKE PARK, FL. - Walter Patterson, 90, of Lake Park, Fla., passed away peacefully at home Saturday evening, July 15, 2006. He was born at his family's farmhouse in Richfield Springs on July 16, 1915, the youngest son of the late Frank Patterson and Winifred Cramer Patterson. In Richfield, in partnership with his brother, Philip, he was a prominent farmer and co-owner of Frank Patterson & Sons, a car and farm implement dealership. He shared with his brothers a love of flying and they were all licensed pilots. Together he and Philip also owned a single-engine airplane. After retiring to Florida, he enjoyed boating on the Intra-coastal Waterway. For the past 14 years, Walter was employed by Publix at Oakbrook in Palm Beach Gardens and upon its opening at the Northlake Promenade Shoppes in Lake Park where he worked faithfully until the last days of his life. He was a communicant of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Riviera Beach, Fla. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Philip Patterson and Francis Patterson; and by his nephew, Jerry Patterson. Walter was an honorable man, good and generous with and in his life, sincere, intelligent, strong, persevering and energetic. In a wide range of interests, he was both knowledgeable and helpful. He loved his family. His many nieces and nephews treasure their years of summer evening rides with Walter in overflowing cars to roller skating at Canadarago Park, to stock car races at Fonda, to the Dairy Isle for towers of ice cream or dripping sundaes. He leaves three generations of nieces and nephews; cousins; and many loved friends. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2006, at St. Joseph's Church in Richfield Springs. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs. Those planning an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, are asked to consider contributions in memory of Walter J. Patterson to the charity of their choice.
