Obituary

UTICA - Walter A. Simpson, age 92, of AcaciaVillage, formerly of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Monday January 28, 2008 in St. Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. He had the peace and comfort of his family at his bedside. Born on July 30, 1915 inMilwaukee,WI, he was a son of the late Harry and Charlotte Lundgren Simpson. He was raised and educated inRockford,IL graduating fromRockfordHigh School. He later attended theUniversity ofLouisville. On June 15, 1940 he was united in marriage to the former Grace A. Lodewick inLouisville,KY. For 27 years Mr. Simpson had worked as an accountant for a pioneer company called Kordite Plastics in Macedon, which was later purchased by the Mobil Chemical Corp. He retired in 1981. He had a strong belief in God and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ilion. He and his wife had lived in Herkimer since 1993 coming fromMarion. While living inMarion, Walter had been a member of the Marion Grange and for seventeen years held the elected position on the Marion Central School Board. He held memberships in the Marion Lodge No 926 F&AM, Marion; Eagle Chapter No 79 Royal Arch Masons,Palmyra; Cryptic Council No. 26 Cryptic Mason, Palmyra; York Rite College No 25, Rochester; Zenobia Commandery No. 41, Knights Templar,Palmyra Past Commander, Knight Preceptor. In 1987 he was the recipient of the Cross of Honor and the Order of the Purple Cross from York Rite Priority No. 46. He was a member of the Valley of Utica Scottish Rite Masons 32, the Damascus Shrine AAONMS,Rochester, Ziyara Shrine AANOMS,Utica, Richard Chapter No 558 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Patron Athena Chapter No. 363 Order of the Eastern Star and Past Patron of the Order of the Amaranth. Upon retiring he and his wife enjoyed camping trips and volunteering at the General Herkimer Home in Little Falls. Walter was a kind and gentle man who truly enjoyed helping others. He will always be remembered as a hardworking, caring person who touched the lives of many. He will be greatly missed by his friends and especially by his devoted family. Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years, Grace, two daughters, Jo-anna Michalek of Canaan, Roberta Simpson of Dolgeville, five grandchildren, John Drollette of Bend OR, Michelle Drollette of Jersey City, NJ, Anthony Michalek of Cobelskill, Donald Michalek of Virginia Beach, VA Steven Michalek of New Hampton, NH, three great-grandchildren Darrin, Elizabeth and Andrew Michalek, one brother H. Robert Simpson and his wife Ruby of Richmond, VA and three nieces. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother George Alexander Simpson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in Tompkins Chapel at the Masonic Care Campus. The family will be present in the chapel to receive relatives and friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am (one hour prior to the funeral service). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory. Envelopes will be available at the chapel. All members of Marion Lodge No 926 F&AM are asked to meet at Tompkins Chapel for an 11:00 am ritualistic service. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer
