RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Wasil Halkowich age 79 of Hogsback Road passed away peacefully on Friday morning February 8, 2013 in his home after an extended illness.
He was born on October 17, 1933 at home in the town of Warren, son of the late John and Alesandra Peuch Halkowich.A lifelong resident of Warren, he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. On October 5, 1957 he was united in marriage with the former Anna Hayes in Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs.For sixty years Mr. Halkowich owned and operated his dairy farm in the town of Warren and for forty-eight years was a full time Bus Driver for the Richfield Springs Central Schools.He retired in 2010. He was a member of Saint Johns Episcopal Church in Richfield Springs.
In his leisure time during the winter months he was an avid snowmobiler.He was a member and past president of the Sno-Toppers.He was also a member of the Sportsman Club and the Thursday night Bowling League.
To all who knew him, he will always be remembered for his down to earth manner. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point but you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him.He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
Surviving are his loving wife of fifty-five years, Anna, four daughters, Marjorie Miller and her husband Leslie, Marsha Nelson and her husband Michael all of Richfield Springs, Deidre ODonnell of West Palm Beach, FL, Lenore Halkowich of King George, VA, three grandchildren, Rachael Munyan and her husband Ben of Liverpool, Jenna Miller of Richfield Springs and Mathew Nelson of Richfield Springs, one great- granddaughter, Bridged Munyan, several nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Metro Halkowich, three sisters, Julia Adamiak Fannie Fatia Hollum and Martha Misencik.
Calling hours for Mr. Halkowich will be on Sunday from2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs.
Burial Office from the Book of Common Prayer will be held on Monday at 12:00 noon in Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs with the Reverend John Dixon Bartle, Rector officiating.Interment will take place in the Crane Cemetery, town of Warren later this spring. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
