HERKIMER-Wayne J. Schrader Butch age 62 of Lake Street, passed away on Tuesday afternoon January 16, 2007 in St. Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford after a long illness. He had the comfort of his loving family and dear companion Nancy Schneegas at his side.
He was born on November 21, 1944 in Herkimer, son of the late Arnold and Crystal Mosher Schrader. A lifelong Herkimer resident he was educated in Herkimer. On May 1, 1965 he was united in marriage with the former Linda Ingerham in St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Fort Plain. A loving and devoted union of nearly thirty-six years until her passing on April 5, 2001.
Since 1962 he was employed as a general machine operator for the Remington Arms Company in Ilion, retiring in October of 2006 after forty-four years of loyal service.
Butch had a strong belief in God and was member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. He had a deep love for the outdoors and nature and was a member of the East Pond Fish & Game Club in Tupper Lake. He also had memberships in the National Riflemans Association, Fort Dayton Steamers, the Little Falls Moose Lodge and the Canoe Club.
To all who knew him, he was a strong willed man who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He found an inner peace in the woods and grassy fields of the Adirondack Mountains. His down to earth manor flowed from his character. Any conversation with Butch was frank and to the point. But yet you could sense a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed by many, especially his family.
Surviving are one son, Joe Schrader and his wife Cynthia of Little Falls, a daughter, Coleen Gross and her husband Jeffrey of Herkimer, one brother, Donald and his wife Kathy Schrader of Herkimer, a sister Eleanor Clements and her husband William of Ilion, five grandchildren, Zachery Schrader, Jacob Gross, Carlie Gross, Jessica Irons and John Irons, a great grandson, Dominic Salvagni Two nieces, Yvonne Winter, Kelly Schrader and her fianc Gregg, four nephews, Andy Schrader, William Clements and his wife Jill, John Clements, Chris Clements and his wife Tracy, his companion Nancy Schneegas of Herkimer along with her children, Scott Schneegas and his wife Bridget, Jennifer Shedd with her husband Michael and their children William, Abigail and Emily Shedd.
Funeral service with Holy Eucharist will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Ann Zimmerman, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
