William R. Carter, birth November 4, 1927, in Oswego, NY.
Bill Carter, 73, of East Springfield, died at his home of natural causes on September 20, 2001.
Predeceased by his parents, Helen Rathbun and Charles Carter; sisters, Anita Carter, Elizabeth Archer, Mildred Duffy, and Florence Garling; and his brothers, Wendell Carter and John Carter. Two brothers, Benjamin Carter, of Deland, FL and James Carter, of Liverpool, NY survive him.
He married Laura McShane on September 2, 1950. Their four children, Daniel R. Carter, resides in Little Falls, NY, with his son, Dillon Andrew Carter, Wendell Scott Carter, his wife, Cynthia and their sons, Calvin, Christopher and William Cameron Carter, of Woodson Terrace, MO, Andrew E. Carter, of Ventura, CA and Laura J. Sikkema and her children, Amanda, Ashley and Lucas Sikkema, of Springfield Center.
He was a veteran serving the Navy in WW II. He retired from Beechnut, Canajoharie. He was an artist that enjoyed building and creating as well as painting. He enjoyed playing cards and loved the outdoors and nature. During his life, he contributed time to help the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield and the Glimmerglass Opera House.
The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will take place on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield. The Reverend Susan Burdsall, Pastor will officiate. Memory donations may be made to the Springfield First Responders with the Springfield Fire Department.
