MOHAWK-William J. Congdon Sr. age 50 passed away after courageous battle with cancer on Thursday evening November 19, 2015 in Little Falls Hospital. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on June 22, 1965 in Gloversville, son of Alyce Edick Congdon and the late David E. Congdon Sr. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of Owen D. Young High School and attended Bryant Stratton Business School. On November 24, 1990 he was united in marriage with the former Christine McCaw in Herkimer.
For twenty years Bill worked for the H. M. Quackenbush Co. in Herkimer. After they closed in 1998, he went to work for New England Wood Pellet/Rentech in Schuyler retiring in February of this year. Mr. Congdon had a strong faith in God and attended the New Life Church in Herkimer.
In his leisure time he found peace and relaxation riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. To all who knew him they will always remember a hardworking, fun loving and caring person. He was a devoted family man and a true friend to everyone that he met. He will be sadly missed.
Surviving him are his beloved wife of nearly twenty-five years Christine, his mother, Alyce Congdon, a son, William J. Congdon Jr. of Mohawk, one daughter, Ashley Congdon of Ilion, a brother, James Congdon of Ilion, two sisters, Starlene Truesdell of Little Falls, Tracy Goodson and her husband Michael Sr. of Herkimer, his Godson, Andrew Jasewicz Jr.. several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his father David Sr. he was preceded in death by his brother David E. Congdon Jr., three sisters, Julie Congdon, Pamela Congdon and Robyn Congdon Jasewicz.
Calling hours for Mr. Congdon will be on Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Funeral service will be held at the New Life Church, 337 Protection Avenue, Herkimer on Monday at 11:00 am, with Pastor David Hayner officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the Hospice and Palliative Care Team and the staff at Little Falls Hospital for the excellent care and compassion shown to both William and his family during this difficult time. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Hospice and Palliative Care or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
