SYRACUSE WILLIAM C. DILLON JR, Bill age 76 passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, October 12, 2017 in St, Josephs Hospital, Syracuse with the comfort of his loving family at his side including his two daughters and only grandchild, newborn Emma G Gale or as he liked to call her G.
Bill was born in Syracuse on April 19, 1941. The son of the late William C. Sr. and Bette (Lane) Dillon. He attended schools in Syracuse, Oxford and graduated from Marianapolis Preparatory School in Putnam, CT. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Navy Seabees where is served our great country honorably from 1962 - 1966 as a surveyor while stationed in Okinawa, Vietnam and Adak, Alaska.
After the service, Bill earned a degree from Utica College of Syracuse University in Accounting and in later years a degree in Computer Science from Herkimer Community College. Bill worked for several businesses in Central New York in accounting with majority of his career at MDS in East Herkimer as a cost accountant.
Bill married Sandra Phillips in 1969 and had three wonderful children: Terri L. Dillon of Syracuse, William Dillon III of NYC and Jennifer M. Dillon of Tully. In 1989 he married Lois Cross.
Bill was an active member of the Herkimer American Legion Post No. 38 and the Herkimer VFW Post No. 4915 for many years. He enjoyed going to hunting camp at Buck Point Lodge with friends where he was the keeper of the beer because he did not hunt. Bill was a huge sports fan and enjoyed watching basketball, football and baseball on TV and always had the remote in his hand. Bill also enjoyed his computer, social media and his daily dish of ice cream.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 17, from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St, Herkimer. Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday, October 18 at 1:00 pm, at the funeral home with the Reverend, Mark Cunningham, Pastor of St. Francis deSales Church, will officiate with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery with a Navy Honor Guard present.
Members of American Legion Post No. 38, Herkimer and Michael F. Pliseck Post 4915 V.F.W, Herkimer are asked to assemble in the funeral home at 6:30pm Tuesday for ritualistic service at 6:45pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's name may be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
