MOHAWK - William C. Frankland, age 89, of East Main Street, formerly of Orchard Street, passed away on Monday evening, November 23, 2009, in Valley Health Services, Inc. He had the comfort of his loving wife at his side.He was born on January 15, 1920, in Utica, son of the late Albert and Athol R. Williams Frankland. A lifelong area resident, he was raised in New York Mills, where he graduated high school. On October 26, 1946, he was united in marriage with the former Doris E. Thomas Mayo. He moved to Mohawk from New York Mills and has resided their since.For many years, Mr. Frankland worked as a machinist for A.D. Julliard Company in New York Mills. He later worked for the Remington Rand Company and retired from the Mohawk Municipal Commission in 1982. He was a former member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church, where he served as Church Treasurer and was member of the Board of Trustees, and a current member of the Mohawk Reformed Church. He was also a member of Amicable Lodge No. 664 Free and Accepted Masons in New Hartford for over sixty-five years. Bill enjoyed singing and sang with many area church choirs, including the annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service at the Fort Herkimer Church.Mr. Frankland will always be remembered as a warm and caring gentleman who found great joy in doing for others. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.Surviving are his devoted wife of sixty-three years, Doris; two daughters, Diane Strader Miner and her husband, The Reverend Arthur Miner, of Rome, and Cheryl D. Welch and her husband, Stephen, of Mohawk; five grandchildren, Christy and her husband, Patrick Beauregard, of Albany, Jeanette Hernandez and her husband, Alberto, of Erieville, Sharon Davis and her husband, Robert, of Mohawk, and William Welch and Elisa Welch, both of Mohawk; five great-grandchildren, Lelaina Beauregard, Abigail Beauregard, and Ethan, Kylie and Ava Hernandez; a sister-in-law, Joan Frankland, of New York Mills; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Earl and Harry Richard Frankland.A Memorial Service will take place on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the Mohawk Reformed Church with the Reverend Brian Engle, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in the Mohawk Reformed Church on Sunday one hour prior to the memorial service (2:00 until 3:00 p.m.).Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Mohawk Homestead or the Mohawk Reformed Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church.The family wishes to thank the Valley Health Services, Inc., Saint Elizabeths Medical Center and the Mohawk Homestead for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Bill and his family during his recent illness.
