Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - William George Glasser age 80 of Church Streetpassed away peacefully on Thursday evening June 25, 2009 in Mary ImogeneBassett Hospital,Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on April 15, 1929 in Coney Island, son of the late Theodore Henry and Anna OConnell Glasser. Bill was raised in Brooklyn and was a graduate of LincolnHigh School in Sheepshead Bay. A veteran of the Korean War, in 1948 he enlisted in the US Army where he served with the Military Police. He was honorably discharged in 1952. After his military service he joined the New York State Police where he worked as a Trooper and Investigator until 1967. He then used his acquired skills, working as an insurance claims investigator and adjuster for twelve years. For three years, Mr. Glasser managed the Burns Security Services office in Utica and for two years served on the Security Force at Remington Arms in Ilion. He moved to Richfield Springs in 1953 and on July 17, 1954 was united in marriage with the former Shirley Irene Brown in the Richfield Springs United Methodist Church. They have resided in Richfield Springs since. He was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. Bill was a man with a true sense of community. He served as Richfield Town Justice and Richfield Springs Village Justice from 1972 until 1988. He was a member and past president of the Richfield Springs Lions Club, a member of Richfield Springs American legion Post # 616 and long time member of the National Rifle Association. To all who knew him, they will remember a sincere and down to earth gentleman. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point, yet you could always feel a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Shirley, a daughter, Melanie and her husband Donald Bruce of Richfield Springs, one son William H. Glasser of Derby, two grandchildren, Amanda and her husband, Adrian Matlack of Henrietta, Jason and his wife, Trista Bartl of Richfield Springs, two great grandchildren, Hannah and John Bartl, several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends Ray and Connie Nassar of Richfield Springs. Funeral service with military honors will be on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the family plot in Schuyler Lake Cemetery, town of Exeter. The Reverend Arthur Miner, Pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting Richfield Springs will officiate. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Heart Association or the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
