SCHUYLER LAKE - William John Ludemann Jr., age 72, of Church Street passed away peacefully, after a courageous battle against cancer, on Wednesday evening, May 2, 2012 in A. O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on January 28, 1940 in Brooklyn, the son of the late William John Sr. and Mildred Hollien Ludemann.Bill was raised in Woodhaven, Queens and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson Vocational High School.His family moved to West Winfield in 1957 and three years later on April 9, 1960 he was united in marriage with Esther M. Buell in the Universalist Church, Schuyler Lake.
Bill was a printer by trade and was the Manager of MDS Printing in Schuyler. He retired in 1985. His hobbies included camping, cutting wood, working on automobiles, home projects and always being there for his family.
For fifty-two years he was a distinguished member of the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department and served in many roles that included Chief for three years, Pump Operator and Mentor.To those who knew him, he was considered a jack of all trades and master of all. He could either build or fix anything that confronted him. He was a good friend to many and will be greatly missed.He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family.
Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty-two years Esther, two sons, William J. Ludemann III and his wife Jill of Sauquoit, James Ludemannof Lewisville, TX, two daughters and their husbands, Kim Marieand Jeffrey Phillips of Cooperstown, Judi and Anthony Harrison of St. Simons Island, GA, two brothers and their wives, John and Linda Ludemann of Turtle Cove, ME, Robert and Judy Ludemann of West Winfield, one sister Nancy Melville of Plainfield, and the joys of his life; his five grandchildren, Todd and Kevin Cooper, Jacob and William Gray Harrison, Ryan Ludemann, and a great granddaughter, Ava Cooper. He is also survived by several brother and sister-in-laws, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Firemens Funeral service for Bill will be held on Saturday May 12, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Stone Church in Schuyler Lake.The family will be present in the church to receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the funeral service (10:00 until 11:00 am).Interment in Schuyler Lake Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Catskill Area Hospice or the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad.Envelopes will be available at the church.
