Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - William O. Maksuta age 74 of Walnut Street passed away on Friday evening April 27, 2012 in his home after an extended illness.He had the support and comfort of his family at his side. He was born on June 25, 1937 in Herkimer, son of the late Phillip and Stella Zawko Maksuta. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School with the class of 1955.On October 15, 1960 he was united in marriage with the former Lorna Aunger in Christ Episcopal Church, Cooperstown.Together they shared a loving and devoted union of forty-five years until her passing on March 30, 2006. An honorably discharged US Army veteran he served proudly from 1961 to 1963. For over twenty years, Mr. Maksuta was a construction worker with Local Union # 35, Utica.He retired in 1985. Bill had a strong love for the outdoors, in his leisure time he enjoyed hunting and playing. To all who knew him they will never forget an honest, caring and straight forward man. Any conversation with him was frank and to the point yet you always felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him.He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. He is survived by a son, Russell P. Maksuta and his Yvette of Allen, TX, one daughter, Donna Stokes and her companion Michael Acker of Richfield Springs, four cherished grandchildren, Stephen and Alan Stokes, Seth and Nicolas Maksuta, one great granddaughter Amelia Stokes and several cousins. Calling hours for Mr. Maksuta will take place in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs today (Wednesday) from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.Funeral service from the Book of Common Prayer will be on Thursday at 2:00 pm with the Reverend John Dixon Bartle, Rector of St. Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs officiating.Interment with military honors will follow in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
