ILION-William Mang, 79, ofJordanville Road died on Monday evening, July 10, 2000 in Folts Homes, Herkimer.He was born on March 25, 1921 in Dolgeville, son of the late Frank and EstherMae Eaker Mang.
A lifelong area resident he was educated in Richfield Springs Schools. On August 10, 1940 he married Gertrude Eggleston in Richfield Springs. He first worked for the Town of Warren and for twenty-three years was a heavy equipment operator for the New York State Department of Transportation, retiring in 1959. Bill was a man well loved by his family and friends. He truly cared for everyone he knew. Bill loved the outdoors where he would hunt and fish. He was a member of the Columbia Center United Methodist Church.
Surviving besides his wife offifty-nine years Gertrude, are a son; Gary Mang of Poughkeepsie, three daughtersand their husbands; Judy and Larry Sickler of Frankfort, Cathy and James Schultzof Mohawk, Robin and David Mergenthaler of Stephen City, VA, two brothers andtheir wives; Charles and Elsie Mang of South Columbia, Robert and Jean Mang ofCooperstown, a sister; Elizabeth VanCort of Herkimer, six grandchildren; LarrySickler Jr. and his wife Joanne of Ilion, Timothy and his wife Michelle Schultzof Mohawk, David Mergenthaler Jr.(US Coast Guard) and his wife Colette of Holt,MI, Tammy Sickler Morgan, Sheila and her husband Leslie Hosler, Shelly and herhusband Michael Cole all of Ilion, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephewsand cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandson Daniel Mergenthaler in1989 and a sister Eleanor Dziadik.
Funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 AM inFenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Hans Drewspastor of the Columbia Center United Methodist Church will officiate. Intermentwill follow in Cedarville Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeralhome to receive relatives and friends Wednesday (today) from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.Memorial donations may be made to the Folts Homes, Herkimer. Envelopes will beavailable at the funeral home.
