Schuyler William Clarence Phillips, age 75, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, January 12, 2017, at St. Lukes Home in New Hartford.
He was born on May 15, 1941 in Utica, son of the late Gaynor and Lillian Davis Phillips. At a young age the family moved to Schuyler where he attended a one room school house until the Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District was formed. He graduated from Frankfort-Schuyler High School with the class of 1961. On November 19, 1963 he was united in marriage to Faith Baylor at the Frankfort United Methodist Church. For over thirty years he was employed as a toolmaker with Valley Chuck and Tool and then Mohawk Data Sciences when they purchased the company. After retirement in 1992 Bill attended BOCES in Herkimer for several years bolstering his mechanical skills. Mr. Phillips was gifted with a natural mechanical ability, especially for antique farm machinery. He was an avid collector of antique tractors, engines and paraphernalia. For twenty years he proudly served as president of Mohawk Valley Power of the Past Association. He was also a past member of the Mid York Bee Keepers Association. To all who knew him he was a warm, friendly and helpful man who enjoyed helping others while looking for nothing in return. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and family.
Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Faith, two sons, and their wives. William C. Phillips, Jr and Margaret of Utica, Bradley and Penny Phillips of Poland, one sister Barbara Caldwell and her husband Ken of Kissimmee, FL, former daughter-in-law Christine Warner, seven grandchildren, William J. Phillips and his wife Ivy, Rebecca Fambrough and her husband David, Rachael Phillips, Brian March, Jeffrey Near, Ryan and Paige Sullivan, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and relatives are invited to gather this coming Saturday, January 21st, from 2:00 until 5:00 pm at the Eagles Club of Utica on Cosby Manor Road for a celebration of Bills life.
Mr. Phillips family wish to express their heartfelt thank you to the staff of Barton West for the excellent care and kindness shown during his time there.
