Obituary

Little Falls-Winifred Pearl Hilts age 93 of West End Road, formerly of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon May 6, 2015 in Valley Health Services, Inc., Herkimer. She was surrounded by her loving family at her passing. She was born on July 27, 1921 in Edmeston, daughter of the late Lenzo and Bessie Crandall Dye. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Herkimer and was educated in Herkimer Schools. On July 3, 1941 she was united in marriage to Max Hilts in the Herkimer Baptist Church. They shared a devoted union of forty-seven years until his passing on May 2, 1968. Mrs. Hilts had worked for the Duofold Company and was also a baby-sitter for many years. "Granma Winnie" as the kids would affectionately call her, had taken care of more than sixty-two children over the years. Mrs. Hilts had a strong faith in God and was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer. To those who knew her, she was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She will be truly missed. Surviving are two sons Jack Hilts and his wife Anne of Herkimer, Richard Hilts of Little Falls, nine grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, along with several cousins. Besides her parents and husband Max, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Hilts, a son, Larry Hilts, seven brothers, Don, Leo, Gerry, Bob, Jim, Bernard, Russ and Wilfred Hilts, three sisters, Bernice Loomis, Betty Fralick and Josephine Mead and a daughter-in-law Claire Hilts. Calling hours for Mrs. Hilts will be on Friday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home with The Reverend Ronald Fralick and The Reverend Doctor Tenolion Bell, pastor of the First Baptist Church Herkimer officiating. Interment service will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls.
