RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Zigmont J. Surawski Jr. age 75 of Marble Road passed away peacefully on Thursday October 5, 2006 in his home. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on September 27, 1931 in Meridan, CT, son of the late Zigmont Sr. and Alice Kurmaski Surawski. He was raised in Worcester , MA where he graduated high school. He furthered his education at Temple and later at Clark University .
On June 7, 1958 he was united in marriage with the former Carolyne McMillan in Fort Lauderdale , FL. They have resided in Richfield Springs since 1977 coming from Charlton , MA . Mr. Surawski had worked as Clinic Manager for Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown and more recently as a clerk for the Utica Rescue Mission.
Zigmont had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Christian life. He was a member of the Community Bible Chapel in Toddsville.
In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening, fishing and his younger years scuba diving. One of the highlights of his scuba diving was when he helped the renowned Jacques Cousteau with his recovery of the Andrea Dorea.
He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his grandchildren. He will be truly missed.
Surviving besides his loving wife of forty-eight years Carolyne are, four sons, Zigmont J. III and his wife Debra Surawski of Florence, SC, Stefan J. and his wife Kathy Surawski of Sauquoit, Christopher A. and his wife Kelli Surawski of West Sacramento, CA, Matthew A. Surawski of Richfield Springs, a daughter, Stacia K. Bridger and her husband Michael of West Winfield, nine grandchildren, Melissa Homeyer and her husband Jason, Zigmont J. IV and his wife Gail Surawski, Kaitlin Surawski, Joshua Surawski, Brandon Bridger, Kieghley Bridger, Sydney Bridger, Carrie Surawski and Kayla Surawski.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:30 pm in the Community Bible Chapel, Toddsville. Pastor Jack Klosheim will officiate. Interment will follow in Schuyler Lake Cemetery . The family will be present in the Church to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 1:00 until 2:30 pm.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers to kindly consider memorial donations to The Community Bible Chapel Building Fund, Catskill Area Hospice or the Seaburg Scholarship Fund through the Utica Rescue Mission. Envelopes will be available at the church.
