HERKIMER- Zonny Kozarewicz age 90 of Nathan Castle Apartments, South Main Street, passed away peacefully on Friday night September 17, 2010 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. She was born on October 30 1919 in Herkimer, daughter of the late August and Anastasia Faryniuk Kozarewicz. A lifelong Herkimer resident, she was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1937. For more than thirty years, Zonny was employed as a secretary for the General Electric Company in Utica. She retired in 1982 She had a strong belief in God and was a devout member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Saint Marys Protectress, Herkimer. She had the distinction of being the first female secretary of the church as well as singing in the church choir. Miss Kozarewicz will always be remembered for her strong sense of community and her involvement in Democratic politics. She was a past president of the Herkimer County Democratic Womens Organization where she had served as its Treasurer in 1964. Zonny was appointed coordinator of the New York State Regional Womens meeting in 1977. She had also worked as a Polls Inspector in Herkimer for more than thirty years. To all who knew her, they will remember her warm smile. She was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. She leaves behind two very close and special friends, Catherine Flynn of Herkimer and Amy Bell of Ilion. Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Wednesday at 9:30 am. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Saint Marys Protectress, Herkimer. The Very Reverend Ivan Semko, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Saint Marys Ukrainian OrthodoxCemetery, town of Herkimer. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Parastas will be on Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Saint Marys Protectress, 326 Moore Avenue, Herkimer, NY 13350.
